Haiti

Now, more than ever, they need your help.

- Visit our website: www.Bon-Bagay.com. Opt in to the message series to keep Haiti top-of-mind…and learn fascinating facts about the country. Singing crows? Blue coffee? A fort built from one of Columbus’s ships? You’ll have amazing things to talk about at your next get-together!

- Donate money. Food for the Poor, http://www.foodforthepoor.org, has a permanent presence in Haiti and a 4-star rating (the highest) from Charity Navigator. Visit http://bon-bagay.com/Earthquake_Relief.html for other ideas.

- Sponsor a child. Search the Internet for “sponsor + child + Haiti.” You can choose a sponsorship program based upon several factors, including the amount you wish to commit, whether you’d like religious instruction and/or medical care included, etc. “Your” child will attend school, be given a school uniform, and eat nutritious meals; you may also write to him or her and help the child learn English and escape poverty.

- Provide meals for the elderly; provide Crocs (lightweight, sturdy, washable shoes) for the elderly. Faith Evangelical Free Church in Waterville, Maine has these programs in place. Visit http://fefchurch.org; contact them at FEFC@FEFChurch.org.

- Donate sunglasses to the children of Haiti. Visit http://Bon-Bagay.com/donate.

- Help Haitian artisans become self-supporting. Visit http://bon-bagay.com/Shop.html. Also check out Aid to Artisans, http://aidtoartisans.org, and similar organizations.

- Buy products from Haiti: coffee, vanilla, cocoa, rum, Haitian mangoes (Haitian Francine). Research to find out where you can buy them locally or online.

- Be sensible about “buying green.” Green is good…to a point. But when food crops are diverted to make non-food products such as biofuels, people starve. Remember, one SUV tank fill-up of biofuels consumes enough corn to feed a man for a year. Visit http://Bon-Bagay.com/food_vs._fuel.html for more information.

- Let people know that Haiti is now more open to allowing foreign adoptions than ever before. With tens of thousands of new orphans, they are seeing the need to let Americans and others help take care of their children.
